As a Puyallup Newborn Photographer, I get the lucky privilege of spending my days with some pretty sweet little newborns (and their awesome parents too).

One recent Sunday, I got to be in the presence of this sweet Little Miss here at my home studio in the South Hill area of Puyallup, WA. It was a cold sunny morning as I welcomed beautiful Baby Amelia and her amazing parents in the door right at 9AM sharp to get started with their newborn photo session. I have to admit, they were the first new parents to arrive not only on time, but early! I was majorly impressed, because I learned some time ago when I first started working as a Puyallup newborn photographer, that a person’s sense of time completely changes after they have their first baby-and its totally excusable and understandable too, might I add!

Many Mother’s reading this will agree when I say that something interesting happens when you suddenly become a parent and are immediately and fully responsible for a brand new little tiny human being in every way. This new and intricate responsibility causes life and time to slow down by a large margin at first.

And that’s OK! As a Mother of two toddlers who were once little tiny newborns, I totally get it, and remember it- Its a real thing!

Preparing a brand new baby to be away from their home for 2 to 3 hours for a newborn photo session in the first several weeks of life is kind of a big deal, and I get that Parents don’t mean to run late-It just happens. Plus the sleep deprivation – man it slows us down even more but that is a whole ‘nother thing for another post, some other day! So let me be clear, I feel for those tardy parents. I’ve been there.

This is why I always ask new parents to give themselves a little extra time before their sessions start to allow room for parents that are running behind. Lets be real, just putting baby in their new car seat can take a surprising amount of time when you are exhausted and new at it. I never want to see parents show up so late that we don’t have enough time to get all the poses and shots we wanted. Nobody  wants to miss out on cute adorable photos of their baby! Baby Amelia’s parents, nailed it! They were on time, which meant we did not have to rush- and that is a beautiful thing. Good work, you two!

This little sweat pea was absolutely breathtaking. Baby Amelia was sleepy but awake when she arrived. She snuggled in Mom’s arms as Dad proudly talked of the birthday that they now shared. Seeing how proud he was about it, and catching Mom’s pleased smile totally warmed my heart. I can’t help it you guys, I just get all emotional about how sweet all these new parents are! It was very obvious this little family had so much love for one another and they were so proud! I loved every minute, seeing them that way.

When this sweet newborn was put in my arms, I nearly melted. She looked truly like a split between her beautiful Momma and her Daddy. (Look, I know a lot of people look at babies as they first meet them and quickly declare something similar to the parents, just to be nice- but I really meant this when I said it! She had her Dad’s eyes but her Moms face- it was really incredible to see. They smiled as they heard my surprise at the familiarity of baby’s features.

I called her a little “Rose Bud” that moment, because she looked so beautifully pink and so perfect. She was breathtaking in every way. I have the best job in the world as a Puyallup Newborn Photographer, you guys…

But what happens if your baby does not sleep during a newborn photo session you might wonder?

This actually does happen from time to time, believe it or not! And I’m here to tell you, everything still turns out great. Seriously! Baby stayed awake for 3/4’s of the time she was with me and did not cry once! She was so busy and alert and was wiggling and moving around while she was listening to her parents talk. It was pretty cute and did not affect the session one bit. Her parents smiled and told stories of their first week together with her and the adorable little things Baby does and how smart she is already. I love hearing all of this, its really sweet to me. I remember the excitement so clearly, I get it.

Getting to witness a brand new family together for the first time, those first few days as parents with their newborn, is something nearly magical.

I couldn’t help but notice how in love this newborns parents were- it was very obvious they were living in that beautiful moment they had both always been waiting for. To be there together as parents with their new beautiful and perfect baby girl. I feel so privileged to get to spend time with sweet new families like this. It is a very special thing to me.

Sweet Little Miss has some really wonderful parents, and Its one of my absolute favorite things in the world to see.

What an incredible job Baby Amelia did! Bravo, sweet girl! She was so patient with me, and despite being awake so long, she never fussed, not once. What a dream baby to work with! I already cannot wait for her to come back again!

By the time we were wrapping up, her parents and I had talked for hours, and related in so many ways over the life as a parent. They felt like old friends of mine.

Not to mention, sweet little Amelia had finally knocked out for the count-  fast asleep in a beautiful baby prop of bent branches, as she laid there wrapped up in a beautiful soft pink outfit. She really looked like a little peaceful pink sleeping beauty!

I can’t wait to see you back, you sweet thing. I look forward to doing a sitter session, a cake smash and more with you! Just promise me you will bring your wonderful parents back with you when you come 🙂 Bless their hearts! Welcome to the world, sweet Amelia- we are all so happy you are here!
